Monday Thoughts – 03/01/2010 – March Winds

March winds…

The first day of March.  It is tree trimming time in our part of the world.  Botanists say that trees need the powerful March winds to flex their trunks and main branches.  The movement of the tree trunk allows the sap to be drawn up to nourish the budding leaves.  It also stimulates hormones that cause root and trunk growth.  How are the economic winds impacting the trunk and branches of your business?  Is it positive or negative?  Is your business model rigid or flexible?  Just like trees that don’t flex and bend, if your business model is too rigid, the powerful economic winds can rip your business apart.  The winds can also cause new growth in your business that is even better than before the market change.

It is important to flex and move with the changing conditions and markets.  Stay rigid on the core values.  Those are the roots that provide a strong base for your business and should never change.  Everything else, including strategies and techniques, needs to be flexible.  The strong March winds helps trees grow and become stronger.  Are current economic winds doing the same for your business?

That’s my Monday Thoughts.
